What you see here actually happened.
The flames, sparks, and ice were my own creation and capture.
Though reliant on various software applications to interpret the digital image, the techniques applied are almost identical to those I once used in the darkroom.
The primary modifications are to exposure, contrast and tone.
Sculpture
These figures are initially sculpted out of clay.
I then create a negative silicon mold.
The positive form is created by combining the encaustic with various materials, primarily iron, glass, salt, and water.
The incendiary figures are created in the same manner, except that the encaustic is replaced with charcoal, which is then combined with various flammable chemicals.
Post ignition, I add salt and iron and then photograph the sculpture as it reacts with the elements over time.
